Discover fostering with EPIC FOSTERING

The History of The EPIC Family CIC

At The EPIC Family CIC Family, we believe that families are the cornerstone of our community. Our mission is to provide a welcoming and inclusive space where families from all backgrounds can come together to connect, learn, and grow. Our programs and services are designed to support families at every stage of life, from prenatal care and early childhood education to parenting workshops and resources for older adults. We strive to create a culture of respect, empathy, and collaboration that fosters strong and resilient families.

EPIC Fostering (part of The EPIC Family CIC) is founded by Dan an experienced Foster Parent, who recognised a need for a more positive and inclusive fostering service in the South West.

The EPIC Family CIC is not owned by corporate investors, has no shareholders, Directors are unable to withdraw dividends (bonuses), and the organisation cannot be sold.

As a not-for-profit organisation, all of our money is invested back into supporting the children we care for. This means we can offer bespoke, tailor-made packages of support for each individual foster child.

We value our Foster Parents as an integral part of our team, and an expert in the lives of the children they care for, therefore, we provide wrap-around support including access to in-house therapeutic services to ensure that every fostering household receives the level of support they need at any given time.

As a new Fostering Service, joining us will enable you to be an important part of helping shape and develop as we grow.

We have no plans to become a large, national organisation, where you become a ‘number’. We are proud to be focusing solely in the South West of England, enabling us to develop strong, positive relationships with key stakeholders. As a small fostering organisation, we all work closely together (including Senior Managers), offering a more personal and collaborative experience.

Get Involved

At EPIC Fostering, we pride ourselves on being different to other Independent Fostering Agencies and Local Authorities in-house Fostering Services.

We are here to provide wrap around support to our Foster Families in a meaningful way.

We don’t just say we will support you, we actually do it! Afterall, members of our team either have direct experience of fostering Young People or still do, just like our Founder Dan, so they know how crucial it is to get the right support. Each Foster Family has access to the following:

  • EPIC Supervising Social Worker (ESSW)
  • EPIC Listener (EL)for peer support
  • EPIC Child Support Worker (ECSW)
  • Bespoke training
  • Bespoke EPIC Support Services
  • Inhouse therapeutic services
  • EPIC events and celebrations
  • Opportunities to progress & develop & much, much, more!

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at info@epicfamilycic.co.uk if you cannot find an answer to your question.

All Foster Parents in the UK are paid an allowance for the Child(ren) they care for. These vary massively between different services, with some having very complex allowance structures. We have aimed to keep ours as simple as possible, with a fee for the Foster Parent(s) based on experience, and a fee for the Child(ren) based on their level of need. One of our team members will go through this in more detail with you (if they haven’t already!) The above is provided to you as part of a package and there are no additional costs to you.

Core RequirementsTo be eligible to foster, you must meet the following basic criteria:

  • Age: You must be at least 21 years old. There is no upper age limit, provided you are fit and healthy enough to care for a child into their adulthood.
  • Residency: You must be a full-time resident in the UK or have indefinite leave to remain and the right to work in the UK.
  • Accommodation: You must have a spare bedroom that is available for a foster child to use as their own private space (an exception may be made for a baby under two sharing your room).
  • Time and Availability: You need to have the time and flexibility to care for a child, which involves daily school runs, attending meetings with social workers and other professionals, and managing school holidays. While it's possible to work and foster, your employer must be flexible enough to accommodate these commitments.
  • Health and Lifestyle: You must be physically and psychologically fit enough to care for a child. A medical assessment will be part of the process, but existing health conditions or disabilities do not automatically rule you out.
  • Background Checks: You and all adult household members will undergo enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks. Convictions for violent or sexual offences against children or vulnerable adults will disqualify you from fostering, but other minor or past offences are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Beyond the core requirements, successful foster parents demonstrate specific personal qualities:

  • Patience, understanding, and empathy: Essential for caring for children who may have experienced trauma.
  • Flexibility and resilience: To manage challenging behaviours and unexpected changes in a child's life.
  • A supportive network: A strong circle of family and friends to help you through the fostering journey is highly valued.
  • Willingness to learn: You will need to attend initial and ongoing training.
  • Teamwork skills: The ability to work collaboratively with social workers, teachers, and health professionals.

We are always looking for volunteers and donors to support our programs. Visit our social media pages or contact us for more information by completing the contact us page via the website.
